Editor Matthew Aldridge writes:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Happy new year and new decade to all newsletter readers!
Perhaps like me you made a list of new years resolutions, which is already looking a little too long. When I was at school, a wise person gave me some sound advice on writing lists; put down everything you know then “etc.” at the end, the reader will then assume you know more than you do. I still use this trick to this day! Anyway, no matter what other resolutions you may have, resolve one more thing for 2020; improve the life of your machine while saving money! Throughout 2020 my offer still stands, so email me with the details of your requirements and, I promise I will give it my urgent attention. This applies to bearings, linear guides, cable chains and flexible cables, the samples are free and you could save a lot of money. You are also always welcome to visit us in Northampton!
If you use e-chain® in your machines, please enter the Vector award where you can win up to 5000 euros prize money

motion plastics® in application
No more cabling work
The innovative energy chain arrangement of this automation solution enables a very space-saving set-up. The small bend radius needed because of the narrow installation situation is possible over the entire desired service life without any problems occurring. The chain and cables in the form of a pre-harnessed readychain® system saves days of valuable installation time.
Plastic made into oil again
Recycling plastic waste in 20 minutes with an acceptable use of energy. This is possible with the Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor technology (abbreviated: Cat-HTR). We are investing 4.7 million euros in Mura Technology, which will put the first commercial Cat-HTR plant into operation.

Insights from the igus® lab
74% stronger crossbars
A test was carried out with the 1400 e-chain® series in the company’s test laboratory in order to measure the force needed to pull out the crossbars with and without the reinforcement provided by the igus® locks.
Plain bearings used over a test distance of 2,560km
25 different high-performance polymers were tested in combination with carbon fibre shafts to find out which is the best combination in terms of the coefficient of wear. The result: iglidur® J260 is most suitable for these shafts.
Where is igus® hiding?
Monoskibob: skiing in a sitting position
The users are mainly people who use a wheelchair in their everyday lives. A mechanism with dampening elements underneath the bucket seat enables proper driving techniques from the Downhill-Bike-Sport as well as the use of tow lifts and chair lifts. iglidur® bearings are in their element here.
