Iain Mackenzie’s progression story
Where did my career begin?
Before igus® I spent almost 4 years working in retail while searching for the perfect job for me. My igus journey first began when I joined the drylin® team in the Factory, which involved completing a variety of customer orders incorporating bearings, aluminium rails and shaft and their respective carriage systems where required. This naturally involved building up a level of familiarity with our products and the assembly requirements of various specifications.
After 3 months of operating in the drylin® team, an internal vacancy arose for a Credit Controller within the Finance team. Despite my lack of experience in the financial sector up to this point, I chose to apply with the hopes of building a new career for myself, which I am honoured to say was successful.
The start of Iain Mackenzie’s igus® Finance journey
This position then led to me serving as a Credit Controller for almost 2 and a half years, all while building up my knowledge and understanding of the financial sector, with accounts receivable becoming my speciality over time. The customer interaction was especially important to me in this role, having previously worked in retail.
This skillset has proved to be an absolute asset when resolving difficult queries, or in building a rapport with numerous customer contacts over time. It was during my time as Credit Controller that we experienced our lowest ever level of aged debt. I believe this is a testament to how efficient our team became, with the various working styles and approaches used.
In parallel to my serving as Credit Controller, I was also given the opportunity to study AAT which I am doing in my own time. This has started me on the path to becoming a fully qualified accountant, with hopes to become chartered in the coming years. As well as presenting future opportunities for my career, this has also provided a level of gratification via a sense of progress and further increasing my knowledge of the finance sector.
What happened in February 2022 in Iain Mackenzie’s world?
In February 2022, I then moved away from credit control to become a Reporting Analyst using a wide range of Power BI reports at our disposal. I can safely say this is another immense learning opportunity and challenge. This role allows me to utilise my problem solving and investigation skills, whilst also granting me the chance to further elevate my profile within the business and industry.
I am incredibly grateful to igus® UK for granting me the numerous opportunities l have had since starting here and I have no doubt that this would not have been possible without the people that I work alongside and the work ethic of igus
