The year that disappeared

Hannover Show is not taking place. But innovations are.

Dear Sir or Madam,

We will remember 2020 for a very long time. Forever.

The world-famous Hannover Show has just been cancelled completely. One of the fixed stars in the world of technical designers and engineers. I am one of the biggest fans of the annual Hannover exhibition.

For me, it is one more aspect of life that appears to have been edited out of our reality. Work, friends, culture – all the things that we know have changed. We are cut off from practically everything that, just three weeks ago, we thought life was all about and are now facing a new world.

Today, on 1st April 2020, an unbelievably beautiful spring day, we would normally be right in the middle of preparations for Hannover.

We had worked extremely hard – with almost 100 new products ready. Now, we are asking ourselves, “Is anyone even interested?”

How can our world prevent itself from being forced to its knees by something we cannot even see?

With intelligence, ideas and gumption, but also with recognition of the need for solidarity. Like yourself, the igus® factories around the world are currently experiencing a situation where there is an enormous amount of mutual aid being offered, where appropriate measures and activities are being undertaken. People make plans, make progress and make the things they need whatever happens. We learn how to adapt ourselves faster and do not allow ourselves to become discouraged.

This year as well, we will be showing you our new products and interesting fresh solutions. For us, the igus® mission “Tech up & Cost down” is especially relevant at this time. We have to prove that this is possible.

At the moment, we are developing new ways of presenting innovations to you.

For some of us, the Hannover Show slogan of the year – “Home of industrial Pioneers” – is now becoming “Home Office Pioneers”. But a lot can be discovered, explored and developed there as well.
