Long Travel Transcript

“Hello, I’m Mark Smith and I would like to talk about our centre fixed gliding energy chain system. So, here’s a sample that we have, its 600mm travel but we can do up to 1,000 metres. The benefit of these systems is that it is centre fixed so, the cables come in to the centre point here and you need half the chain for whatever travel plus whatever the loop is. So, if this was a 100-metre travel, you would need 50 metres of chain plus the loop at the end, maybe 1 or 2 metres. And that would do 100 metres of travel, or if I had 1,000 metres of travel, I need 500 metres of chain plus the loop, call it 502 metres, and that would travel 1,000 metres.

 There are a few benefits to that, I need less chain, shorter cable runs, and there are some technical benefits here as well because with a shorter cable run I can calculate a smaller cross section because the volt drop will be less. And with data cables we can get better quality data down a shorter distance.
