The limitless possibilities using igus® tribo-tape

igus® never stops innovating and improving on products. We listen to our customers, see what gaps we have in our product range and evolve new ideas into products.  A success story for this very concept is the igus® tribo-tape

tribo tape-range

Tribo-tape was designed using the same technology as igus® stock materials, a combination of thermoplastic compounds fused with lubricants, creating the same low friction sliding surface we have come to expect from igus® materials. With its effective sliding surface, tribo-tape lends itself to a multitude of applications, especially if your application calls for a significant decrease of coefficient of friction. The tape can be used as a protective layer which can prevent abrasion when running two sliding surfaces against each other. This helps increase the service life of machine components, reducing operating costs. It also has noise reduction qualities allowing you to use it as a noise dampening product. The possibilities are endless.

For these reasons, tribo-tape is used in a variety of industries and by an array of customers from manufacturing, and Food & Packaging applications to the medical industry.

How it was born…

A160 tribo-tape

The story begins with the introduction of iglidur® A160 tape. An FDA approved material, bright blue, perfect for the food and medical industry.

People loved it for its tribo properties and its adaptability but….. the consensus was although blue was great for certain industries, what if you wanted the same properties but wanted it to disappear into the background?

Enter iglidur® B160!  B160 had all the great traits of the A160 but had been designed in black which aesthetically made it more appealing to designs where there was a need to be inconspicuous.

These have remained the most popular materials but in typical igus® style, we tested, adapted and created two more to add to the family; V400, our high temperature and high chemical resistant tape and W160, our white version of the A160 & B160.

The key elements that all the tapes contain are:

  • Low coefficients of friction
  • Wear-resistant
  • Easy to cut to size
  • Optional self-adhesive back

The growing new product range of tribo-tape has fast become a popular igus® product due to its versatility. We currently offer the following widths as standard and also have a self-adhesive back as an optional version.

B160 tribo-tape

20mm, 50mm, 120mm and 500mm.

Having these variations as standard allows design flexibility and the tape is only 0.5mm thick (0.7mm with the adhesive backing)  it can be cut easily with scissors or a Stanley knife, so simple to manipulate into a shape that suits your requirements.

Custom machined tribo-tape

We have the capabilities of laser cutting and routing custom shapes and designs out of the tape, so if you have a design you want us to look at please let us know.
